Dear Editor,
I looked at the President’s press conference of January 10. Some parts he was correct. Other parts I looked at with amusement and disgust. One is in relation to the Hope Canal. If the President thinks a government agency will complete the project successfully, then I guess he’s been out of Guyana too long. It’s not going to happen. Period!
The second part is in relation to his new house lot. It’s more like his new ‘massa estate’. This President is singularly responsible for the neglect of duties which his ministers and senior functionaries are guilty of since he is leading by example. If he looks back at the press conference, I am sure he will agree with me.
The reason is this President is now building a second mansion during his presidency. He has a lot of time on his hands. He supposedly micro managed the first mansion down to selecting and importing the tiles from India. He sold that mansion for US$600,000. This is the second lot he was allocated. He never lived in the first one. He built it and sold it.
I was never allocated a house lot by the state. If I sold my house can he allocate me a one-acre lot in ‘Pradoville 2’ or in Providence? I always wanted and would love a one-acre lot. If there is a minimum requirement to purchase three or four acres, I would gladly do this. I will pay the $5 million an acre as he did. Strangely, this particular project was never advertised. Maybe not so strange.
These lands were made available to a particular clique. The whole scenario is so disgusting. What is wrong with this country? Ganesh Singh
