Dear Editor,
I find your publication of the young woman’s name and photograph ( “Doctors forced to remove 17-year-old girl’s uterus”) to be distasteful, lacking in professionalism and an invasion of the privacy of a minor. A woman losing her uterus is a very traumatic, sensitive and highly private personal matter.
It is all good to report on the continued disastrous treatment of maternity patients at public hospitals but to add insult to injury by publishing this young woman’s photograph is unacceptable.
Only last week you carried a story about a former policeman being held in Suriname on drug charges and for whatever reason no name or photograph was mentioned. It was left to the readers to make the connections.
Now you find it newsworthy to publish the name and photograph of this unfortunate young woman. You have done as much harm to her as the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The Kaieteur News owes this young woman and her family an apology.
