Dear Editor,
As we steadily advance towards Elections 2011, there must be heightened vigilance and a determination by all citizens to refrain from all acts of violence, mayhem and confusion.
Those persons, who seem always ready to perform acts that are not only heinous and disruptive, but most times embarrassing to themselves and their broad ethnic grouping, must be sagacious in their reasoning, when contemplating a ‘sinister’ political call to action.
Guyanese will need to better analyse the likely happenings that will precede the upcoming election and not be hypnotized and manipulated by the fear factors that for too long have clouded their better judgment.
The desperation that accompanies the innate desire to preserve political power will know no boundaries. The next election will be a crucial one for the future of Guyana and all Guyanese. Therefore there ought to be no room for distractions which will manifest themselves in very clever ways.
The opposition forces in Guyana have everything to lose if they sanction any act(s) of violence or terror. Guyanese need to be wary of the ‘thugs’, ‘hooligans’, ‘protesters’, and so-called freedom fighters who have been labeled as certified disruptive elements.
Again I would like to implore those brothers and sisters who seem to be the recent faces of silly theatrical political performances, to refrain from further moral and racial degradation.
Let the enforcers of political mischief reflect the image and likeness of their intellectual authors.
Do not be the faces and voices of the disruptive mob that attempted to break up a conference at the national library last year. Do not be the faces of workers who mindlessly endorsed the pathetic explanations given by government officials for not cleaning the part of the trench in front of Mr. Freddie Kissoon’s home.
Refrain from being the gentleman who threw the miasmic substance on the face of Mr. Kissoon.
It is high time Guyanese free themselves from pre-election fear and violence and dedicate all their energies towards exercising their franchise on Election Day. As long as you are a registered voter, get up on Election Day and vote for change. It’s long overdue!
Richard Francois
