Dear Editor,
According to the news, President Bharrat Jagdeo attended the Mercosur Summit in Brazil. He was accompanied by a Government delegation, which included PPP General Secretary Mr. Donald Ramotar.
Can the President say in what capacity did Mr. Donald Ramotar attended the function and on what basis was he selected for the Presidential trip?
Obviously, Ramotar is enjoying “sponsorship”, as Moses Nagamootoo complained some time ago, when he was taken on another such trip to the Middle East and featured in “Cabinet Out-Reaches”.
This is corruption of the process of selecting a PPP presidential candidate, as Ramotar is given an advantage over the other contenders such as Ralph Ramkarran, Clement Rohee and Nagamootoo.
In Brazil, Lula’s personal successor became the new President, and President Jagdeo may feel that he has joined good company by parading his own anointed one.
Sadly, the PPP members and supporters have been sidelined, and are expected to baptize Jagdeo’s hand-picked successor in 2011. Sheila Bentick
