Even as the world is becoming more intolerant to domestic abuse, Mark La Cruz, a labourer of Edinburgh Village, East Bank Berbice just could not keep his hands off his wife.
MARK LA CRUZ
La Cruz is now feeling the consequences of his violent nature after he was sentenced to two months in jail by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, when he appeared before her at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to a charge of assault committed on his wife on the 19 November, 2010 at their home.
Prosecutor Corporal Roberto Figueira told the court that earlier in the month, the 22-year-old man was charged with an offence of a similar nature and was placed on a bond to keep the peace for one year. However, he defied that order and assaulted his wife again.
La Cruz is also charged with assaulting Mohan Bassant, committed on the same date at Bibi Samaroo Ranch at Calabash Creek East Bank Berbice. He was fined $10,000 or an alternative of two months in jail on that matter.
He is also accused of assaulting Brijpaul Chabilall on the same day at the same venue, a matter that will come up again on the 26th January2011, following his not guilty plea.
