Six of the Brazilian and Lethem Vaqueros pose for a photo opportunity while in Georgetown yesterday. These skilled cowboys have promised to put on a show for the fans.
D-Day is tomorrow for action in the Rising Sun Rodeo at their Arima Park, West Coast Berbice Turf Club.
And several of the Vaqueros from Brazil and Lethem arrived in the city on Thursday and are rearing to go into competition tomorrow. The very confident and experienced bunch will be involved in Wild Steer roping, Bare back bronco riding, Bull riding, Saddle Bronco riding and Wild Cow milking.
Six of the Vaqueros, three from the Point Ranch at Lethem, Zephon Rodrigues, Carlos Davis and Junior Lee, along with three from neighbouring Brazil, Max Celso De Aranjo Farias, Herbert Sariva and Haimundo Antonio Nascimento, were in the city and Kaieteur Sport caught up with them.
They are all excited and ready for tomorrow’s competition, where they will display their ability at this event as fans will be entertained by the skills, spills and thrills that will be on display.
Preparations for the event were well advanced prior to the event, with organiser and President of The Rising Sun Rodeo Committee Inshanally Habibulla stating that just a few logistical arrangements were to be put in place for the big day just over a week ago. The visiting Vaqueros can expect stiff competition from the West Berbice posse led by Fazal Habibulla and made up of cowboys from Berbice, Abary, Mahaica and Mahaicony River areas who will be doing their best to defend their home town advantage.
The day’s programme begins at 11:00 hrs and will feature activities in some 10 different categories including steer roping, bare back bronco riding, which will also see the females getting into action.
There are also male and female barrel race, wild cow milking, calf roping, wild bull riding, Saddle bronco and the popular Tug o War events. The various winners and other outstanding performers will be presented with monetary incentive, trophies and other attractive prizes. Over $1M in cash, trophies and other incentives will be up for grabs in the one-day event.
A number of business entities have come on board to help sponsor the event, among them Banks DIH Limited, Muneshwar and Company, Telephone Giants Digicel, Hablaw’s Meat Centre and Chester Fry Chicken of Bush Lot West Coast Berbice, Neal and Massy Guyana Limited and subsidiary Geddes Grant along with the Abary cattle ranch, Mohammed Sheriff cattle ranch and cattle dealer and rancher Sunil Suruj (son) of the Corentyne.
