Bevis George, 40, of 337 Mayor and Town Council Housing Scheme, Berbice, was remanded by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo when he appeared at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court yesterday when he appeared to answer a charge of attempted murder charged.
It was alleged that he beat Mahandeo Gopie while they were in police custody.
Police prosecutor Roberto Figueria told the court that on October 24 last, the accused and Gopie were in custody at the Central Police Station, when Gopie corrected George about him urinating on the cell floor.
George became angry and started to beat Gopie, who was subsequently rescued and taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he remained warded.
The matter was investigated and Bevis George was charged.
He is now expected to make his second court appearance on November 19.
