Dear Editor,
I have difficulty with designating a single month as one that should be special for the elderly. My belief is that every month should be made special for our senior citizens and that the activities being organised for this Month of the Elderly should be perpetual.
In a previous letter I suggested that Georgetown badly needs a recreation/leisure centre for the elderly where seniors can mix, play games; enjoy each other’s company, snacks and appropriate entertainment all under careful supervision.
Perhaps Minister Manickchand would consider taking on such a needed project. One understands that though limited resources may dictate that government not consider the welfare and happiness of the elderly as pressing priorities, the case is being made in earnest that the elderly’ do matter.
The task is therefore for government to give this initiative life and longevity. In this way every month can be a month of the elderly. Perhaps the initiative should be renamed Century of the Seniors. F. Hamley Case
