The “masturbation” goes on
It must be a very depressing population in Guyana. This works in favour of the elected dictators. When people are distressed that their country is run by hardened, insensitive, corrupt, authoritarian governors and the train of dictatorship is unstoppable, they tend to insulate themselves from the opposition and survive on their own initiatives. They want nothing to do with politics.
The opposition loses out badly here because the ruling cabal will use state resources to entice the electorate to return them to power while societal apathy and chagrin dent the chances of the opposition.
In Guyana, people are so mentally perplexed at the masturbatory display of the opposition parties in Parliament that by some weird logic they may end up seeing the ruling oligarchy as more logical than their competitors and may very well vote for another term for the PPP.
On the one hand, these parties describe the ruling elites with the most shocking semantics available in the lexicon of human knowledge. On the other side, the combined opposition in the National Assembly quietly, peacefully and willingly participates in the Parliament. This is not only a glaring contradiction. It is action that is so confusing that it is bound to instill absolute disgust in society.
How can you paint a government with charges of relationships with bestial drug barons, single it out as one of Planet Earth’s most corrupt ruling autocracies, consistently provide evidence of its racist policies, frequently expose its diseased incompetence, and in totality, prove its destructive nature but you end up in Parliament with these same sinners that you are relentlessly crucifying?
You dutifully take up your seats and have an engaging debate in the august Assemble. By what logic can you convince the population that the things you say about the Government are true? How can you expect me to believe you when you act as if there is stability and democracy in the land?
The opposition has yet to understand that its attitude to Parliament is sending confusing signals to people who think that the PPP administration has crossed lines of indecencies and immoralities a long, long time ago. Nothing can better describe this scenario as the theatre of caricatured creatures.
We may have a situation on our hand next year where there may be a gargantuan abstention at the polls, a process that will devastate the opposition and give the incumbent maybe over 90 percent of the votes cast. Before I continue, let me say what I genuinely feel in my mind at this moment – I am totally turned off of all the Parliamentary parties.
What was the opposite doing in Parliament on Thursday? Couldn’t they have given the nation even a symbolic gesture of boycotting the opening session? The opposition presence in Parliament can be linked to the following situation. A trade union tells the nations not to patronize a certain retail trade.
The storeowner only employs one type of race of people. The business sells the worst type of goods that are unfit to be over the counter. Sexual abuse takes place and counterfeit money is given when you collect your change.
But as you pass the premises, you see those very trade union leaders making their purchases. One and only one thought will run into your mind – these leaders could not be telling the truth or else why would they buy there in the first place?
This is the state of our parliamentary parties. And there was no better way to observe it than in the newspapers yesterday. There you have the news of our opposition parliamentarians debating in the House and right next to that item is a photograph of GECOM’s Chairman with the caption that informs readers that the Office of the President has informed GECOM that it must place all its advertisements on the newly established web page hosted by GINA.
The more our opposition MPs creep into Parliament and make themselves clowns in the eyes of this depressed population, the more vicious the elected dictators become. Why should I vote for these opposition politicians.
GECOM is an independent body that no one dares to touch because of its functions. You cannot dictate to GECOM.
You can make representation to it. But its value of independence is so sacred that it is virtually chaos you are inviting if it should be made to adhere to the edicts of any institution be it the government itself.
So politicians from the PPP side tell GECOM how it should do its’ advertising. The masturbation in Parliament goes on!
