Investigators in the matter in which an eight-month-old girl was found in a latrine, said they are awaiting test results from overseas in order to proceed with the matter. This newspaper was told that since the post mortem was inconclusive, samples were taken from the baby’s remains to facilitate further testing.
In the meantime the baby’s mother has been reporting to the police on a daily basis.
On September 17, last, the baby’s decomposing remains were found in a latrine aback of her mother’s Parika Façade, East Bank Demerara abode. The baby had been missing for a few days and concerned neighbours decided to search the area after reportedly receiving conflicting stores from the child’s mother about her whereabouts. The baby was found clad only in pampers and wrapped in a bed sheet and an old hammock.
Following the discovery the mother was detained but subsequently released. The mother who hails from Lethem is said to have often expressed frustration after the baby was born with a medical condition.
