The Plaisance Seventh Day Adventist Church on Saturday hosted the Mount Sinai Pathfinder Day event to award Pathfinders who had shown attributes of a “good Christian” and worked hard throughout the nine-month year of the organization’s calendar.
The event was held under the theme “Prepare ye the way, behold he come”.
According to ‘director Andel’, the event is the first of its sort for the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Plaisance.
The Pathfinder Club is a worldwide program organized and directed by the Youth Department of the General Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church often compared as a Seventh-day Adventist Co-ed “Boy Scouts.’
Initially, this club was for the benefit of children 10 to 15 years of age.
However, with nearly two million members world-wide, this Seventh Day Adventist Church-sponsored Club accepts any youth who promises to abide by the Pathfinder law, regardless of their church affiliation.
As part of the programme, the congregation was treated with Christian speech deliveries from four young Pathfinders.
The speech conveyed messages of love, faith, patience and self sacrifice. According to the speakers, these are important attributes that a “good Christian” must possess.
According to a member of the Pathfinder club, the club promotes it members from one stage to another.
Stages of the club consist of; friend, Companion, Explorer, Ranger, Voyager and Guide.
Among the members who were promoted were Leah Nurse, Shemroy Powers, Jehoshebth Ferdinand, Maria Calder, Daniel Calder, Rhonda, Sandra and Annabel (friends).Truth Edwards, Latisha Luke, Ronelica Williams, Joshua Ferdinand, Isaiah Nurse, Cormella and Andel (Companion). Vanita Savory, Donecia Walcott, Sladey Powers, Dir. Andel and Kerwyn (Explorer). Ebony Edwards, Angela Mc Allister, Christel Ceasar, Andrea Dover, Elijah Nurse, Tamika and Neoka (Ranger). Renita Savory, Orin Edwards, Purnell Alsopp, Robert Daniels and Director Andel.
According to the director, once a Pathfinder reaches the age of 16, he or she can decide whether to continue to the Master Guide programme. The Master Guide programme is more independent, requires more effort and self motivation than the other levels, and its requirements focus on witnessing and leadership more than individual skills. This class was designed to train youth leaders in the basic skills of youth ministry and leadership.
Director Andel, member of Pathfinder, encourages members of various communities to join a pathfinder club in their area.
