‘Wanted man’ trades bullets with police in Bare Roots

Police are expected to resume the hunt for a well known criminal suspect who traded bullets with them early yesterday morning in Bare Roots, Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara.
The man who was recently freed of a murder charge, managed to escape by fleeing into the village’s backlands after discharging about five rounds from a small firearm at the ranks who had arrived to apprehend him.
Yesterday, Police Commissioner Henry Greene confirmed the incident but did not provide details regarding why the suspect is wanted.
However Kaieteur News understands that the police on the East Coast of Demerara received word that the suspect, who they say might be linked to the recent AK-47 find in Berbice, is wanted by the Criminal Investigations Department for questioning.
At around 05:15 hours yesterday two jeeploads of ranks first swooped down on a house in Melanie Damishana where the suspect was believed to be but they did not find him there.
Police then rushed down to a house in Bare Roots where they saw the suspect hurriedly fleeing, scaling several fences in the process.
The ranks tried to corner him but the man discharged several rounds forcing the police to return fire while seeking cover.
Police believe that after they swooped down on the house in Melanie, the suspect was probably informed, and he had ample time to commence his escape.
