Seromini Choomanlall was crowned queen of Essequibo Sunday night. The well-attended event, co-ordinated by officials of the Lake Mainstay Resort, was held at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground.
Ms. Choomanlall, 19, who gained the judges’ nod after answering the final question, also had the crowd behind her.
In response to the final question, “Essequibo is increasingly becoming a main tourist attraction in Guyana. How would you promote your community?”
The beauty who wore a red crown designed by pageant co-ordinator, Derek Moore, responded in a manner that ensured that she would finish unchallenged.
The pageant kicked off around 21:30 hours with the introduction of the ten delegates, Sermonie Choomanlall, Madonna Sonia, Saudia Roberts, Malika Courtman, Marcell Hubbard, Neisha Federicks, Shevon Tyrell, Teanna Spellen, Diana Hussain and Mishna Runa Gracias.
The delegates strutted in swimwear and evening gown before they were subsequently reduced to five after the elimination segment.
The final five, Seromini Choomanlall, Nesha Ferericks, Malika Courtman, Diana Hussain and Saudia Roberts.
Another favourite of the crowd, Roberts was the fourth runner-up. Diana Hussain finished in the third runner-up spot and received $75,000; Neisha Feredericks finished second runner-up and took home $100,000 along with a gold chain and a Motorola phone. Malika Courtman, the first runner up received $150,000 along with a 14-karat gold chain, a Motorola phone and other incentives.
The winner, Ms. Choomanlall, took away $250,000, a trip to Kaieteur Falls, a trip for two to the Mainstay Resort, a Motorola phone and a 14 karat gold chain and other incentives. The aspiring flight attendant, who hails from Charity was sponsored by Ramotar Investment.
The crowd was treated to entertainment from chutney singer and dancer Sandella. The people went wild when actor and dancer, Granny Ivelaw, emerged on the stage to dish out some tantalising and erotic moves to the accompaniment of renditions by the Mighty Sparrow, Shakira, and Michael Jackson.
