Dear Editor,
Although I would agree that most elections have some form of irregularities, they hardly reach the level where they are considered outright fraudulent, as is the case with the 2009 PNCR congressional election that elected Robert Corbin Party Leader.
The mere fact that you find it necessary to attack my criticism of Corbin’s leadership, defies your claim of the PNCR having exclusive rights to democracy in Guyana, and clearly demonstrates your intolerance for dissent.
So don’t try to lecture me about democracy, when I see it at work everyday living in the greatest democracy on earth…the good ‘ole USA. I understand how sensitive and personal this subject is to you, but your blind stubbornness for not seeing the forest for the trees, is contributing immensely to the demise of the very party you accuse others of doing.
The online edition of Kaieteur News has a wonderful feature on its webpage…it’s called “The Archives”, I suggest you use it before you continue to misconstrue my comments to achieve your goals. I have never advocated lawlessness or the breaking of party rules that govern the PNCR; instead, I argue that it may be necessary to legally amend those in keeping with the deplorably state of affairs in Guyana, and political conditions that clearly justify those amendments, but for obvious reasons, you are oppose to this, and choose to attack anyone who threatens your survival. In your haste to defend yourself: “Democracy does not mean laws and regulations must be trampled upon” (Kaieteur News September 4), you incorrectly quoted me as implying that my “…opposition to Government means a transfer of support to either the PNCR or the AFC”, when in fact what I wrote was, “… my opposition to the ruling PPP/C Administration does not automatically transfer to my support for those who oppose them as well” (Kaieteur News September 2).
In your letter, you bluntly refused to comment on my allegation that you write under the names of Lurlene Nestor and B. Beniprashad Rayman – two well known PNCR activists, and you cowardly continue to do so. Being very familiar with the Best area on the WBD, I know who the real B. Beniprashad Rayman is. The fact that this person now resides in Canada may be the reason you feel safe using that name. I don’t have to spend time figuring out who you are, because I already know. And if there’s any doubt about this, here’s a hint: Maybe your position would not be threatened if you spend your time more productively in the service of the people, rather than wasting it attacking me while the AFC steals your thunder.
Politicians who by choice, place themselves in the public forum, will be wise to listen to the needs of the people, rather than forcing their will upon them, and must accept that a citizen has a right to challenge the actions of elected officials when there is a need to do so. But in your confused state of mind as you prepare for a tough election campaign, I can forgive, for I know the truth hurts…Does’t it ‘B. Beniprashad Rayman’?
