Two bandits brandishing handguns attacked (Guyoil) Sam’s Service Station at Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, on Tuesday night, and carted off just over $600,000 in cash after discharging several rounds at the supervisor who was transporting the money to a vehicle, while the gas station was closing. No one was injured in the ordeal.
According to an employee at the Service Station, three persons were on the evening shift, two pump attendants and a supervisor, and upon closure of the facility at 22:00 hours, “two men come out from gas station road, and started shooting at the supervisor (Tazlim Nazadeen) and he just drop the bag with the money, duck and run up the road….the two pump attendant bruck out to.”
Another worker recounted that the bandits, who were carrying handguns, then ran into Cornelia Ida backdam and made good their escape. The police visited the scene soon after and retrieved spent shells as well as took statements.
It was noted that several minutes before the closure of the gas station, two men appeared and requested some money to be changed, which delayed the process, and minutes after their departure the bandits attacked. “This thing was set up.”
