Overseas based Guyanese in the United States of America continues to support Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club. Secretary/CEO of the club Hilbert Foster recently obtained several sponsorships during a visit to New York. Mr. Foster who was on vacation with his family took the opportunity to meet with several former residents of Rose Hall Town and some businessmen.
Popular Guyanese Businessman George Sukraj of Zara Apartments agreed to sponsor the club’s annual Region 6 outstanding students awards ceremony scheduled for September. Sukraj handed over a cheque for $504US to the club and has also promised to be present at the ceremony where Berbice top CSEC and Grade Six assessment students would be honoured.
Businessmen and former resident of Rose Hall Town, Lynden Armogan, also renewed his sponsorship of the club’s annual Tribute to Heroes programme under which senior citizens are honoured for their contribution to the development of Guyana. Armogan sponsorship is also worth $500US and he has committed himself to a long term sponsorship in memory of his late father, Milton, who was a Member of Parliament in the 1980’s. Mr. Rajandra Mahase of the Little Guyana Bake Shop contributed US$200 to the club’s weekly Feeding of the Poor programme.
Businessman Dupaul Singh of Singh’s Sporting Goods of Ozone Park, New York donated US$150, Dauphine Vautull US$200, Leena Jainairine US$150, Lester Soloman US$100, Tony Razack $100, Tamesh Sukhdeo $100 and Sharla Ali $1400US.
Other Guyanese making financial donations were Jean Kassim, Mary Gibson, Sunil Persaud, Dianna Bipat, Roy Henry, Dato’s Bakery, Devi Sukhdeo, Nalanie Hendrat, Karen Nero, Michael Sampson, S. Ceasar and Bobby Vieira.
Paul and Patrick Haynes of the Haynes Foundation have also committed themselves to providing 24 pairs of uniforms for a basketball team that would be formed shortly by the club. The foundation would also assist with basketball competitions for teams in Berbice. Discussions were also held on possible cooperation in the club’s charity campaign. Mr. Foster in total received a total of $4,500US in cash and sports materials while discussions would continue with several N60’s and churches in the near future to gather more support.
The management and members of the RHTYSC would like to express profound gratitude to all the overseas donors and assure them that all funds would be accounted for and used for intended purpose. The club would also like to acknowledge the cooperation of Mrs. Elizabeth Harper, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Brentnol Evans, Consul General of Guyana in New York.
