NACRA defending champions Guyana had to rebound from a stunning defeat at the hands of beaten Central American & Caribbean Championship finalist Jamaica to stay in contention to gain top honours after Day One yesterday, at the National Stadium.
Playing in the third game on opening day, Guyana were convincingly beaten 17-5 by the Jamaicans, before regrouping to end the day with victories over St. Lucia who they defeated 38-8 and the Cayman Islands who lost 17-0 to the favourites.
The only team to finish unbeaten on the first day was Trinidad and Tobago who won all four games comfortably, beating Barbados 29-5, Mexico 10-5, Bahamas 17-12 and British Virgin Islands 48-0.
Guyana along with Jamaica and the Cayman Islands qualified from Group A, while Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas and Mexico made it to the next phase from Group B.
