Memorex XI, winners of the Berbice Zone of the Carib Beer National Softball Cricket Competition.
Playing at the Providence ground, Memorex XI (New Amsterdam zone Champion) defeated Yard Cobra XI (The West Coast Berbice zone Champion) easily by 35 runs.
In the first match Memorex XI won the toss and batted scoring a challenging 136-8 in their 15 overs with extras being a healthy 37. Bowling for Yard Cobra was Tom Haley who took 3-35 which included some 12 wides.
In reply Yard Cobra XI were limited to 101-8 in their allotment of overs with Harry Gareth scoring 17. Bowling for Memorex XI was Troy Kippins with 3-16 from 3 overs.
In the second match Young Achievers XI (Canje Zone winner) were able to get the better of Fyrish Cricket Club (Lower Corentyne zone winners) by 28 runs easily.
Young Achievers XI won the toss and batted, scoring a huge 175-4 in their 15 overs with opening batsman Yogeshwar Persaud top scoring with 35 and he was supported by Jagdesh Singh with 20. Bowling, Akash Persaud took 3-26 from 3 overs. In reply Fyrish Cricket Club replied with 147-7 when their allotment of overs ran out with Javed Mohamed leading the way with 32.
In the final, Memorex XI made light work of Young Achievers by 40 runs in a high scoring affair.
Memorex XI batted first and made a huge 170-5 in their 15 overs with Damien Singh leading the way with 48 and Vicky Veerasammy a blistering 40 made off 18 balls. The two featured in a partnership of 60 to take Memorex to their huge total.
When Young Achievers took to the crease they found the going tough in the beginning but the lower order provided some fireworks by scoring 50 off 30 balls to take them to 130-9 off their allotted overs. Jagdesh Singh clobbered 41 to top score in their innings. Troy Kippins again being the best bowler on show with 3-17 from 3 overs.
Memorex XI, the Berbice overall winners, will now join Georgetown winners Regal XI; Essequibo winners United Brothers XI; West Demerara winners Wolf Warriors and Linden winners Uprising XI in the National Quarter-finals as the zones have been completed and will now await the winners of the East Coast, who are awaiting the weather to host their semis and finals to determine their winner along with the Essequibo Islands Winners who are also at their semi-final stage.
The two winners of Leguan are to face the two winners from Wakenaam to determine their winner to do battle in the quarters to be announced later.
