A strong contingent of forty of the nation’s budding swim stars was selected by the Amateur Swimming Association of Trinidad and Tobago to represent the country at the 16th Goodwill Swim Meet in Paramaribo Suriname.
The meet which runs from the August 13 to 15 is targeted for swimmers who have little or no international swimming experience.
Therefore, swimmers who have represented T & T at CARIFTA, CISC or higher level meets in 2010 were ineligible for selection.
The meet involves the territories Guyana, Suriname, Barbados and T & T. Grenada has been invited as a guest team. Team T & T would be seeking to win the title for the first time since 2007, especially since this year T & T has been the victors at the CARIFTA and CISC Swimming Championships.
While all of T & T’s top swimmers from last year’s competition have either moved out of the Goodwill age group, or on to CARIFTA, T & T is expected be top contenders for the overall trophy. Among the strongest age groups are the 13-14s where all swimmers have achieved “A “qualifying times in at least two events.
The team starts training together today, and is expected to continue weekly sessions until departure date.
