Defining Guyana’s low tourism appeal
Dear Editor,
I have asked a Virgin Atlantic executive why it is that the airline comes as close as Tobago, less than 500 miles away but does not come to Guyana after crossing the Atlantic Ocean.
The executive gave a clutch of reasons mainly based on tourist destination preferences.
It is apparent that tourists prefer to give Guyana a wide 500-mile berth because many of them have heard of Guyana as a place to avoid at all costs.
Government should engage a firm of tourism consultants to advise why Guyana is considered a no-go country.
There may be cheaper, more cost effective and short term solutions to Guyana’s low tourism appeal than building a 5-star hotel. Trust me.
