Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Georgetown, Francis Alleyne, OSB, would be celebrating 25 years of priestly life and ministry.

A special Mass of thanksgiving would be said tomorrow at 17:00 hours at the Brickdam Cathedral.
The Bishop, a Trinidadian, was ordained into the Order of Saint Benedict, a Catholic order that stresses the importance of frequent daily prayer and monastic life, on December 8, 1975. He was born on December 3, 1951.
He was ordained a Catholic priest on July 7, 1985, in Trinidad and Tobago. A few years later, he became the Abbot of the Mount St Benedict Monastery in the twin- island republic.
On October 30, 2003, Bishop Alleyne was appointed Bishop of Georgetown, Guyana, which forms part of the Antilles Conference of Bishops, and was ordained on January 30, the following year.
The Bishop would soon be embarking on his stipulated visit around the diocese to interact with his parish churches and make evaluations and offer recommendations. Church law dictates that the local bishop of any diocese visit the entire diocese at least every five years. (Leon Suseran)
