The East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB) 9th Cricket Academy will run from July 12-23 at the Chetram Singh Centre of Excellence at L.B.I. on the East Coast of Demerara.
Seventy-five participants (male and female) between ages 10-15 are expected to participate and according to the ECCB, since the cost is high the Board is staging a fund raiser at Lusignan Community Centre to assist in the cost.
Last year several individuals volunteered their services free of cost including Chetram Singh (GCB President), Dr Shanti Singh Min of Health, the Regional Education Officer (Region 4) Dr. Peters, Former WI Test player Mr. Roger Harper – the solitary level III coach in Guyana, Ms. R. Anandjit Social Worker on HIV/AIDS, Dr. Haynes Herbalist, Ms. Penelope Harris Min of Education, Mr. Neil Kumar Director of Sports, Mr. Terry Holder, Deputy General Manager GT&T and PRO – GCB, the Commander of ‘C’ division Police Cove and John, Mr. Edwin Seeraj, Mr. S Anandjit (Boxhill book scorer), Umpire Anandjit and Coaches Latchman Yadram, Clive Grimmond, Garvin Nedd, Hardeo Sattaur and Orin Bailey.
President of the EECB Bissoon Singh says more facilitators will be present this year.
“Our objectives are to instill in young cricketers of both sexes, the values of sportsmanship and education, the dangers of substances abuse and the knowledge, skills and attitude required to pursue a career in cricket,” Singh said.
The topics to be discussed are: History of W.I Cricket, Coaching, Laws of Cricket, Scoring, Road Safety, Cricket as a career, Drugs and Sports, Importance of Education, Food and Nutrition, Leadership & Sportsmanship, HIV and Teenage Sex, Social Etiquette/Grooming, Formation of Clubs and Leadership, Discipline and Child Protection.
