Quick action by a police mobile patrol on the West Coast of Demerara led to the capture of three bandits, minutes after they had stabbed a taxi driver and relieved him of his cellular phone and other valuables.
The men, who were nabbed at Crane, a village away from where the incident occurred, were still in possession of the victim’s phone and the knife they used to stab him.
According to reports, the taxi driver, Compton Melbourne of Palmer Road, La Grange, was hired by the trio to take them to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
As they approached the hospital, Melbourne realized that the men were up to no good and sensing that they wanted to rob him, he drove his car into the nearby cemetery damaging one of the tombs.
However the men did not panic and stabbed him to the shoulder during a scuffle, before relieving him of his phone and other articles.
But the police were on patrol around the time and upon receipt of the information went in pursuit of the men.
It did not take them long to catch up with the suspects who were promptly arrested.
