Guyana Revenue Authority officers came up empty-handed yesterday while searching Riverview, Ruimveldt, for a boat which was stolen from the Customs Boathouse wharf about a week ago.
Kaieteur News understands that the GRA had seized the approximately 63-foot wooden vessel, which contained smuggled goods, during a recent raid.
The boat was reportedly unloaded and taken to the Customs Boat House, where it mysteriously disappeared last week. Acting on information that the boat was at Riverview, several Customs officers in civilian attire visited the fishing community, yesterday afternoon. They focused their attention on a recently-painted boat and questioned a resident, who revealed that he had bought it about three weeks ago.
The original owner was contacted and the Customs ranks eventually left after confirming that the boat was not the one for which they were looking.
However, the owner is to meet with the GRA on Monday to show the documents regarding the sale.
