Another young boxer of the Harpy Eagles Gym has come under the hammer of the Disciplinary Committee of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) after showing some amount of disregard for the organisation.
Dennis Thomas has been slapped with a four month ban after appearing before the committee last week. Thomas failed to show for an engagement against GDF boxer Devon Boatswain on the last ProAm boxing card at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. The bout was scheduled to be an eliminator for a spot on the CAC Games team.
Thomas and his coach James Walcott appeared before the Disciplinary Committee comprising of President Steve Ninvalle, along with executive members Keith Campbell, Eustace Cuffy and Dexter Patterson to answer the charges against him.
He had failed to show for the bout and to communicate reasons for his nonappearance.
After deliberations Thomas was slapped with the punishment. This come on the heels of a previous episode by a boxer from the same gym, Steffon Gouveia, who also did not show for his bout, claiming injury which was not substantiated by a GABA physician. Gouveia was slapped with a two month ban.
The severity of Thomas’ punishment could be seen as a message to other boxers, seen this is the second offender having to face the Disciplinary Committee from this gym.
The GABA boss, Ninvalle, has indicated that in GABA, whether by boxer of executive member, there is no room for indiscipline and it will not be tolerated and dealt with expediently.
Meanwhile, GABA has scheduled its Intermediate Championships for June 18 to 20 at a venue to be announced early this week.
