Wakenaam welcomes Independence anniversary
Scores of Wakenaam residents turned out to participate in the Annual Flag Raising Ceremony to celebrate Guyana’s Independence Anniversary Tuesday night. The activity was arranged by the Wakenaam Neighbourhood Democratic Council. It attracted all heads of departments on the island.
Mr. Roopchand, Region Three Councillor spoke of life in the pre-independence era while Mr. Sayeed Ahmad, a former president of the Guyana Teachers’ Union spoke of the importance of the Low carbion development Strategy and what it means for Guyana in the future.
He also encouraged the residents to protect the natural sea defences of the island.
The Golden Arrowhead was hoisted by Sargeant English of the Sans Souci Police Station.
