The final two quarter-final matches that were delayed due to the inclement weather leaving the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) in an unplayable state for the past few weeks will be contested this evening at the same venue kicking off from 6:00pm.
Santos are down to collide with Seawall Football Club in the opening encounter, while BK International Western Tigers come up against Fruta Conquerors in the nightcap at 8:00pm. The winners of the two encounters are guaranteed places in the second semi-final fixed for next Sunday May 23 at the GFC. The opening semi-final pits Riddim Squad against the Guyana Defence Force (GDF). The grand finale is set for Sunday May 30, which will be preceded by the third place playoff of the losing semi-finalists.
However, tonight’s quarter-final will be a tooth and nail affair between two evenly matched sides, both of whom will fancy their chances of advancing into the money round. Santos will depend on the talents of Shemroy Arthur, Williams Europe, Trevor Lewis, Kasi John, O’Neal Heywood and Glenorvan Edmonds to lead their challenge for a semi-final berth. Seawall will feed off Toine Lopes, Delon Josiah, Garlon Lewis, Cleveland Walcott, Marvin Griffith and Michael Castello to thwart the plans of Santos and ensure their passage to the semis.
The second quarter-final promises to be a real scrap. The Tigers are no strangers to a real battle and Conquerors can expect the BK boys will turn up for a showdown, one they intend to win. Fruta Conquerors are no pushovers either and will show up painted for war. The side with a blend of old and new faces will look to stroll into the money round.
Neville Stanton, Paul Bobb, Mustapha Hack, Jomo Hinds, Dellon Williams, Joslyn Harry, Sheldon Shepherd and Eon Alleyne will spearhead Fruta’s charge.
The Tigers will have Sherman David, Gavin Wilson, Maxwell Pellew, Dwayne Ali, Nedd Fraser, Derrick Carter and Michael Henry at the forefront of their fight.
Fans are in for a treat and should not be disappointed with these two match ups as the four teams are expected to pull out all the stops as the money round looms.
