– DDL, Digicel among main sponsors
After a brief lull in activities, horseracing returns today when the Kennard Memorial Turf Club stages its grand Post Arrival Day Meet, at the club’s track, Bush Lot Farm Corentyne, Berbice.
Six races are carded for the day with Demerara Distillers Limited and Digicel being the main sponsors with sponsorship totaling close to $2.5M.
The feature event will be for horses classified ‘C’ and lower over a distance of 7furlongs. A number of the countries top horses have taken entry with a first prize of $380,000 up for the takings along with the DDL trophy in what promises to be an exciting event.
Race fans will be eager to see the return of Little Pannie and with Tropical Passion back in the fray, it will be interesting to see how they perform against the likes of Laura Lee in Flight, Sweet Caramel and Madam Butterfly.
A star studded field has been assembled for the ‘F’ and lower event which has a winning take of $220,000 over six furlongs.
The rampaging Pinch D Cash of the Rumors Racing stable is favoured to take another big chunk of the day’s offer as it tries to distance itself from top contenders such as The Gap, Debatable, Prixie Fire and Finishing Touch in what is anticipated to produce a close finish.
The ‘I’ One and lower 7 Furlong event has such contenders Clear Victory, Fantastic Light, and Simple Royal in a battle for the $140,000 top purse.
The I Three event is a six Furlong race and with the likes of Tidal Wave, Lyana and Tiny 21 among the runners the contest should be close affair for the $130,000 at stake for the winner.
The J&K race has the likes of Sunday Star, Blessed Child, Silver Kid Graphic and Lenny’s O Halo competing over six furlongs for the $110,000 winner’s prize.
‘L’ class Division Three event is a five Furlongs race with the winner set to take home $100,000 and those lined up to compete are Nature Prince, Heart Stone, Mystic Girl, Heart Free two Porridge and Sporting Time.
The champion jockey and trainer will receive trophies compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall, Bourda market.
Race time is 13:00 hrs.
According to Secretary of the organisation Ms Niketa Ross, the track is in excellent condition, despite some passing showers.
She is assuring the racing public that all systems are in place and the track will not be affected by rain for what is expected to be a grand day of racing.
Ms. Ross is also reminding horse owners to get their horses properly registered with the Guyana Horse Racing Authority, as those horses not properly entered will not be allowed to participate in the day’s proceedings.
