The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) will officially launch its much-anticipated Under-23 Games tomorrow in the boardroom of telecommunications giants, Digicel, who forms part of the major sponsorship of the track and field event.
President of the AAG, Colin Boyce confirmed yesterday that the event will be launched tomorrow at a time to be announced. He said that Digicel has agreed to host the meeting in their boardroom following their sponsorship arrangement.
Asked about the other preparations for the meet that was postponed to May 27 following heavy rainfall that left the venue, the Police Sport Club Ground, soggy, Boyce indicated that he will be meeting with the General Council this week.
“We will be convening a meeting every week now before the meet to discuss the various aspects of the competition.
Our only concern has been the weather and I will get some of the available support to handle that,” the AAG head said.
Boyce informed that he has spoken to officials from the Guyana Cricket Board, who has a grass cutter in their possession for support in preparing the venue. Digicel would need a properly prepared venue for its branding purposes as well.
“We are going smoothly with our planning. We are putting things in place. We just have to get a little more input with the gate prizes and the tickets for the take away lunch,” he added ahead of the launch of one of the biggest AAG meets.
Boyce had indicated that the fundraiser and the meet are to go in tandem since that was the initial idea. He could not confirm whether or not Banks DIH had replied to their request for additional sponsorship for the event.
