A 30-year-old who was imbibing alcohol with his neighbour, of Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast, on April 9, last was remanded to prison on Monday on a charge of rape.
Mohan Roopdaneshwar was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge when he appeared before Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty.
The man and the victim, who are both acquaintances, were imbibing alcohol at another friend’s residence in the village earlier in the day. The woman went home afterwards and were washing dishes around 18:15 hrs when Roopdaneshwar entered her home, pulled her, and allegedly had sex with her against her will.
Prosecutor Waheed Hamid objected to bail because of the serious nature of the crime. In the same court, Terrance Ford, was also remanded on a charge of rape.
According to a police report, Ford, who resides at Henrietta, left his home and went to a woman’s home around 2:00 am.
It is alleged Ford called out to the woman and when she went out to see who it was, he placed a gun to her head, took away her jewelry and some household utensils.
The report further states that Ford then took the woman on his motorbike to his home at Henrietta where he had sex with her. Ford is being represented by Haimraj Rajkumar.
The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds of the serious nature of the crime and because a weapon was involved.
