Dear Editor,
I congratulate the Commander of D Division for making a very good decision to send the neighbourhood police and uniformed police in an unmarked vehicle to perform traffic duties.
I was stopped for speeding in the vicinity of Bushy Park, Parika, East Bank Essequibo. I was doing 68kms and the speed limit was 50kms.
The police was very polite, courteous and professional, especially the one in plainclothes.
I must compliment them for a great job. They were totally different from the other cops. I travel to different parts of the world and the last time I was treated like that was when I was in Manhattan in the USA. They were not willing to compromise. All I plead with them they were firm in their decision to issue a ticket to all the offenders.
They were able to catch a lot of law breakers because of the unmarked car they were using, especially in the Parika Salem Road, were the drivers feel that the law does not apply to them – overloaded car, no seat belts, drunk drivers etc.
I compliment the Commander and the Commissioner for this idea and would encourage it country-wide. We need more policemen and women like this team. Congratulations for a job well done. R. Singh
