Gaitrie Dhanraj, the 52-year-old woman who was soaked with gasoline and set alight by her son has succumbed from her injuries.
Hospital sources said that Dhanraj, of Enmore, East Coast Demerara, died in the Georgetown Public Hospital Burn Care Unit Friday night.
It is alleged that the woman and her son, Deonarine Mohamed, had an argument two Fridays ago after he came home in a drunken state and demanded food. The son reportedly soaked his mother and the house with petrol before setting the woman alight.
Dhanraj’s reputed husband, Oswald Mohammed, also sustained burns to the face and right hand, while the fire destroyed the couple’s two-storey house. The suspect remains at large.
