Stiffer penalties for rapists
Dear Editor,
I would like to bring to the attention of the Human Services and Social Security Minister and the Government that everyday you read in the newspapers about underage girls being raped and robberies are on the up all over the country.
I am calling for no bail on these predators and also on conviction give them a few strokes (lashes) and a stiff sentence. Drastic measures have to be taken to fit the crimes and these have to be implemented now.
There are two rape incidents in Sheet Anchor, Canje. One involves a 13-year-old who got pregnant and the villain is a GDF soldier. The other one involves a step-father and the funny thing is, I understand that the mother of the victim has paid the lawyer to represent the alleged rapist against her daughter.
How many more are hidden? I am pleading with the authorities to have a heart. Let’s have harsh laws to protect our little ones.
