I’m getting the full co-operation of the players – Henry
– confident that Guyana will win the title for a fifth time
Recently appointed Head Coach of the national Men’s rugby squad Theodore Henry in an interview with Kaieteur Sport yesterday disclosed that he was getting the full co-operation of the players as they prepare for the upcoming defence of their NAWIRA title and participation in the CAC Games.
With both tournaments scheduled to be staged right here at the National Stadium in July, Guyana according to Henry is not taking any team lightly and even though they’ve just commenced training, the defending champions are fully cognizant of the huge task of playing at home.

“Right now we are on a six-week programme in the gym where we are doing light training, before Technical Director Joe Whipple arrives early in May,” Henry told this newspaper.
Speaking of his new appointment, Henry revealed that it is a job that every coach would like to do, especially when you consider that it is the best team in the Caribbean you’re coaching.
“We are the best team in the Caribbean and I’m just relishing the opportunity that was given to me and trying to grab it with both hands,” the new Coach stated.
Commenting on the team’s preparations, Henry said that the kind of preparations that the team is doing right now, he reckoned it is the best that he has seen and is beyond comparison with any other national unit that he has been on.
“With hard work, you will always reap benefits and that is what will make us champions for a fifth time,” he boasted.
He, however, reminded that he is not finished as a player and will be engaged in full team preparation as any other player vying for a place on the squad.
“I’m just preparing the team home here in the absence of Whipple, but he is the individual who will be in charge of the team when he arrives and on game day as well.”
He added that he hasn’t experienced any difficulty so far, indicating that all his career he has been a motivator and an inspirational player so those are the same attributes that he has transferred to the team.
He said the level of commitment shown by the senior players is commendable, adding that it has really helped to inspire the junior ones to strive for excellence.
The CAC Tournament will be played from July 24-25, while the NAWIRA Championship will take place from July 30-31.
