A 58-year-old watchman was killed on the spot at around 20:00 hrs last night after he was struck by a car on the Mahaica Public Road.
Police identified the victim as Chanderpaul Mangru, ‘Tony’, of First Street, Old Road, Mahaica.
According to reports, Mangru, a watchman at Chris Auto Sales, was walking along the public road when the car struck him.
He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Kaieteur News understands that the driver, who was detained, also sustained injuries.
