Dear Editor,
Mr. Robert O. Corbin the Opposition Leader of the PNCR announced that he will not be his party’s next presidential candidate. That is a good decision because instead of just running one more time he can make a much bolder move by working for national unity.
Robert O. Corbin can become the next Prime Minister of Guyana. He should think about this carefully because when all is said and done, it would be his most lasting contribution to the Guyana he loves so much.
Mr. Corbin needs to convince his party that they should work with the PPP/C to bring about shared governance, something all Guyanese want.
The PPP/C and the PNCR can now come together to ensure that Guyana is assured of stability at the political level. President Jagdeo has done Guyana proud. His achievements at the economic front cannot be matched. Development can be seen throughout this country.
Mr. Corbin could be the Prime Ministerial candidate, running along with Mr. Jagdeo in the presidential spot. Corbin, of course, would work with his colleagues in parliament to bring about the necessary constitutional amendments to allow another term for Mr. Jagdeo.
When this is done, the Jagdeo/Corbin (PPP/C-PNCR) team would be unbeatable. The country would breathe a new life. Wounds that have festered for generations would heal. Our people would lift their heads even higher knowing that the politicians do listen.
Mr. Corbin knows fully well that the achievements of President Jagdeo are so overwhelming that large sections of the Guyanese population are afraid that all the progress made over the past decade can collapse if he were to demit office in 2011.
Corbin can do better than just occupy the position of a party leader. He can become a great national leader if only he puts Guyana first and do the right thing. H. Mohamed
