– Ageday, Carto ousted in 100m semi-final
Junior Sportswoman of the Year and defending CARIFTA Games’ 1500m gold medallist in the Under-17 Girls category, Jevina Straker, made it two in a row last night at Truman Bodden Sports Complex, George Town, Cayman Islands.
Straker successfully defended the 1500m title she won last year at the 2010 event which got underway yesterday. Details of her performance were not posted on the website up to press time, but Kaieteur Sport confirmed Straker won.
Guyana’s 100m sprint hopefuls, Tiffany Carto and Chavez Ageday were both ousted in the semi-final round of race earlier last evening. The duo will have to regroup in light of today’s 200m preliminaries, which they are to compete in.
Carto placed sixth in the Under-17 Girls’ semi-final in a time of 12.64 seconds behind the winner Trinidad and Tobago’s Lisa Wickham (12.15). Carto was running out of Heat Three, which was the slowest of the semi-finals.
Bahamas’ Devyne Charlton (12.30) and Suriname’s Ramona Van Der Vloot (12.32) was second and third respectively in Carto’s Heat. Cayman Islands’ Chantelle Morrison is the favourite to win after her blistering 11.69 performance.
Ageday, who recently made the finals at the South American Youth Championships in Columbia, crashed out of the 100m contest with a disappointing 11.00 seconds, which is far below his personal best of 10.50 seconds.
Ageday finished last in Heat One, which was the fastest of the three Heats. Rachmil Van Lamoen from the Netherland Antilles won the race in 10.46 seconds while the home boy, Joseph Subera and Jamaican Brandon Tomlinson was second and third respectively in 10.49 seconds and 10.62 seconds.
