The Guyana Defence Force has lost another of its weapons; this time it’s a pistol.
Kaieteur News understands that the weapon was in the possession of a Captain who is attached to the Joint Services military intelligence unit, when it was reportedly stolen and officials were determined to keep the issue quiet.
This newspaper understands that the stolen weapon was issued to the Captain by a Sergeant without the requisite documentation on the instructions of a Colonel.
One report stated that the Captain had placed the weapon in his bag and was playing basketball when it was stolen.
But another report indicated that the Captain was at a popular city bar when the bag in which he had placed the weapon disappeared.
An investigation was launched and according to sources within the army, the Sergeant who has issued the weapon is now in hot water.
