Ranks from the Police Narcotics Branch yesterday found a quantity of cocaine which was about to be shipped to a Caribbean destination.
This newspaper was told that around 04:00 hours yesterday at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, ranks were searching a Guyana Post Office Corporation mailbag when they stumbled upon a packet of Chico sweets.
The packet and its items were searched and tests later confirmed that the substance was cocaine concealed in the sweets.
Reports are that the cocaine totaled some four kilograms. Investigations are ongoing.
This yet again shows the desperation of persons in the cocaine industry to ship the illegal substance out of the country. Prior to this, the seemingly popular new method of transporting cocaine out of Guyana was found to be wigs.
