– GOAL Project could rival all the other territories
Administrative Officer attached to FIFA Development Office in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Kevin Edwards, here on a direct site inspection of facilities to host upcoming Courses, has given many of them the thumbs up.
Trinidadian Edwards, who departed Guyana yesterday afternoon, was given a tour of the proposed facilities where the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) is expected to host a number of FIFA Courses aimed at aiding the development of the sport.
Among the places Edwards was taken were Linden and Georgetown, communities that will play host to FIFA-funded courses such as the Technical Director, How to manage a club, the staging of FUTSAL competitions, Beach Soccer, an Elite Coaching Course, Grassroots Seminars and a Youth Development Course.
Edwards pointed out that usually FIFA mandates that each facility should be able to accommodate at least 35-40 participants attending each course and from what he has seen, the GFF seems to be on the right track and his report will have to be a positive one, indicating that Guyana is ready to host those courses.
“Without a doubt, the GFF is capable of hosting those courses that FIFA is willing to spend its money on,” he said. He added that without hesitation he will endorse the facilities that he visited.
The FIFA Admin Officer was also taken to the proposed site of the FIFA GOAL Project and he noted that even though it is work to be done, he is extremely impressed by the amount of land available, adding that Guyana has the potential to rival all the other territories in the region.
