The Annual Guyana Oil Company (Guyoil) sponsored Medal Play golf tournament will be played off today at the Lusignan Golf Course on the East Coast of Demerara.
Approximately 35 golfers are expected to battle for top honours in the one-day event. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers with the best net scores as well as the players with the lowest gross. There will also be a prize for Nearest to the Pin. Tee off is at 12:30 hours.
Officials of Guyoil have been invited to attend the tournament and assist in the presentation of prizes.
Meanwhile, Guyana’s top golfer Avinash Persaud was in the fourth position at the end of play on the first day of the Trinidad and Tobago Amateur Golf championships being played at the St. Andrews Club in Port of Spain.
Persaud who is sponsored by Universal Sports of Alberttown scored 75 competing in the championship flight.
Persaud, the reigning Guyana Open champion, who has been campaigning in the Twin Island Republic for the past two months, has express confidence of securing a podium position.
Two players were tied in second position, Carlos Baines of Tobago and Adrian Norford of St. Kitts with scores of 73.
Deryck Gonsalves is in first with a score of 72.
The tournament has attracted over 130 amateur golfers from the Caribbean, North America and Europe.
