A national of St Vincent and the Grenadines was yesterday remanded after she appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that Alisha Joseph on February 23, last, at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, attempted to export 7 kilos 422 grams of cocaine. She pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Joseph was represented by attorney at law Paul Fung-a-Fat. The lawyer in a bail application said that the accused has two young children. When told by the magistrate that this was not a special reason for bail to be granted, the lawyer opted to tell the magistrate that bail should be granted since the jail was overcrowded.
Police Prosecutor Joel Ricknauth objected to bail and asked for the matter to be transferred to Providence Magistrates Court.
That application was subsequently granted by the magistrate. Joseph is scheduled to make another court appearance tomorrow.
