Junior sprint ace, Chavez Ageday and distance athlete, Dennis Horatio will represent the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) and Guyana, respectively, at the South American Under-23 Games slated for Medellin, Columbia.
President of the (AAG), Colin Boyce told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) only made available two places to athletics on the national contingent that will include athletes from other sport disciplines.
He said that if they are to consider more athletes, they would have to do so at their cost and that would be placing the association under immense pressure given the other athletic teams scheduled for international engagements.
“If we want to send more athletes, we would have to pay; we would have to do so at our expense, which is not in our plans at the moment since we have to consider the costing for our CARIFTA and other teams,” Boyce told this newspaper.
It was unclear what were the events that the duo will compete in at the meet in Columbia but what is certain is that Ageday will attempt to boost his form ahead of the CARIFTA Games in the Cayman Islands next month.
