Dear Editor,
It appears that the AFC leadership is in crisis. They are hopping from one blunder to another. Things appear to be getting from bad to worse, with Mr. Ramjattan at the centre of the AFC’s dilemma.
On Wednesday (24-02-10), the Speaker of the House, Mr. Ralph Ramkarran, forcefully rejected Mr. Ramjattan’s claim that the Hansard had been altered. A rebuke such as this is rare from the Speaker, who himself enjoys the confidence of the entire National Assembly.
During the recess of parliament some parliamentarians told this writer that they consider the claim by the AFC deputy leader ‘wild’ and ‘irresponsible’.
The Speaker himself admonished the AFC Chairman for attacking the integrity of the Clerks of Parliament and the integrity of Parliament itself.
Only recently, the AFC had to retreat from claims that presidential cost had reached one billion dollars. The Finance Minister, Dr. Ashnie Singh corrected that figure. He pointed out that the average annual cost of travel for the entire Cabinet is about $200 million.
Mr. Ramjattan will likely apologise but the damage has already been done.
