Police are in the process of conducting ballistic tests on a weapon that was found on a student of a Secondary School on the East Coast of Demerara over a week ago.
The tests are being done even as the police await the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions on whether or not to charge the young man.
The student was caught with the gun in his bag at the Cummingslodge Secondary School two Fridays ago.
However, the weapon, a .22 colt automatic pistol, which was confiscated by the school’s Headmaster was only handed over to the police a few days later.
The youth had claimed that he found the weapon in his yard and has given investigators a statement to that effect.
He was later released on station bail.
“I don’t know what is taking so long. It’s either you charge him or not. He has already given a caution statement,” a senior police official told this newspaper.
