Giftland Office Max continues to support local sport while Oasis Ride Taxi Service also pitched at a simple presentation ceremony to the Guyana Tapeball Cricket League (GTCL) at the Giftland Office Max shopping complex on Water Street.
The GTCL 20/20 competition, dubbed ‘Clash of the Titians’ is scheduled to commence on February 28 and the organisers explained that although teams have until February 22 to register, 45 teams have already signed up for the competition which is open to any team in Demerara at a registration fee of $6,000.
Giftland Office Max’s representative Tule Adams presented a cheque for $100,000 to GTCL President Shane Austin while Managing Director of Oasis Ride Taxi Service, Emsely Baptiste also contributed to the knockout competition which is expected to run for 8 weeks.
Adams said his company is always committed to ‘giving back’ to the community and feels that sports, which involves mainly young people, is a good way of doing that.
Baptiste, who claims to be a big lover of cricket, said that sports is important to nation building and feels that the competition will be a good opportunity for several talented cricketers who have not yet gotten established in the mainstream cricket.
Austin said that teams desirous of joining the competition can register at the GTCL’s Office upstairs of Palm Court on Main street or by contacting Curt Wilson on telephone number 643-4618.
The winning team will take home $200,000 and a trophy while the runner-up side will collect $75,000.
