Dear Editor,
As we get closer to Local Government Elections and General Elections, the political vultures, creatures, adventurers, and opportunists will begin to, inadvertently, expose not only their plot but their true identity.
The moment of the detractors is almost here; their plan is to promote as “the meat of contention” the coveted office of Leader of PNCR and Leader of the Opposition; attempting to make the office holder the subject of their discontent.
The hope is that; by doing this the members and supporters of the PNCR, and general Guyanese populace will either forget or ignore the many atrocities being committed daily by the current administration and its aligned party.
The PPP/C and their co-conspirators are at work; the intensity of their campaign is expected to be unleashed with much more venom designed to target those of us they label as having dramatically inflated egos waiting to explode. This branded “campaign against Robert Corbin”; they fathom is a good way of attempting to achieve two objectives (i) to divert attention from the real issues Guyanese are truly concerned with and (ii) to as they stated some years ago “break the backs of the PNC”.
But it is clear that these architects are not aware of the history of the PNC, a party that has overcome many struggles and emerged from many setbacks. No kind of derogatory; advertisements (full or half page), posters on street posts, or flyers thrown at school children can threaten the resilience, and determination of the PNCR.
We saw what I can only describe as a very simple advertisement attempting to criticise Mr. Corbin’s New Year’s Message, as a desperate start. But with the ad dismissed by every reasonable civil thinking person the detractors in a hasty and desperate manner decided to put out another one hoping that it would gain some ground, but again it becomes of “no moment”.
The sufferings of the Guyanese people and the maladministration parading as governance in Guyana, is too overwhelming for anyone to be hoodwinked by this despicable campaign.
So the PNCR will remain focused on its intensive campaign to ensure citizens are registered to vote in upcoming elections, we will remain the voice to remind Guyanese of the many constitutional breaches of this Government. No kind of campaign against Corbin and the PNCR will be sufficient to divert our attention from the continuing failure of the Government to deal with the upsurge of crime in Guyana, where innocent Guyanese continue to lose life, and property at the hands of well armed bandits.
Yes, we are too concerned with: the exorbitant rate of our electricity bills; the continuing hardship the imposed 16% VAT brings on our family; the lack of jobs for our graduates and non graduates alike; the spate of violence in our schools; the issue of an allege child molester functioning out of the Office of the President and who continues to sit on the Rights of the Child Committee; rampant corruption in government; victimization of citizens; a joint service infested with criminals; claims of government officials linked to the narco trade; the Government’s plan to ensure GAWU’s new Labour College replaces Critchlow Labour College; the paltry 1% hike in pay for teachers; the Government’s mission to cripple the trade unions movement; the President’s unfortunate comments in Iran; Lumumba’s forestry deal; the lopsided tender board process. Will we see a full page advertisement on any of these serious issues? I guess not!
The Guyanese people are too aggrieved to be caught up in the politics of pettiness. The gossip of some AFC, PNCR collaboration or any press conference to deal with same does not warrant our attention nor demands our inquisition.
Let us stay focus on the mission ahead and refuse to be bothered by the psychological plot of the adventurers.
They have over time attempted to take a swipe at our intelligence by attacking us with their simple theories and clumsy conclusions, one just have to read the advertisements.
My friends let us continue to disappoint them and continue to advance the call for a just society.
We are neither interested in the power struggle in the PPP/C nor the fight among their presidential candidate hopefuls, so there is no need to attempt to divert attention.
