The Guyana Relief Council on Wednesday assisted nine fire-affected families who lost their homes and possessions in blazes earlier this year.
The Guyana Relief Council (GRC) says it assisted nine families for this year so far who lost their homes to fire. Some 43 persons would have benefitted.
On Wednesday, the families were presented with their assistance at the GRC’s Riverview, Ruimveldt office.
According to GRC, those who received assistance were Alice Spencer whose family of four lost their home at Zes Kinderen, Mahaicony, Abigail Forde – a nine-member family at Middle Walk, Nabaclis; Chryslin Dey, who has a family of five, from Zes Kinderen, Mahaicony; Adrian Gajraj, a family of five of 135 Waterloo Street; actor Henry Rodney whose family of seven lost their home in a Waterloo Street fire; Earline Dover, a family of five from North Ruimveldt; Pennyhola Wilson, a family of two from North Ruimveldt; Courtney Booker ,of North Ruimveldt and Shelly Halley, whose family of five lost their possessions in a North East La Penitence blaze.
GRC said that last year it assisted 75 families affected by fire, with 315 persons benefitting.
Three families whose homes were affected by high winds also benefitted, while there were 141 cases of needy persons receiving welfare assistance.
GRC is a non-profit, non-governmental and voluntary organization whose mandate is to provide assistance to persons suffering from misfortunes like fire, flooding, high winds and drought.
