Sleep well junior athletic ambassador

Dear Editor,

Being an all time supporter for the local athletic ambassadors via the dailies, it was a major shock and blow to learn about the strange circumstances that caused the passing of one of Guyana’s promising junior athlete, Ms. Roxanna Rigby.

I only saw her once in competition during 2009 and she stood out with her immaculate height as a junior competitor and she also reminded me a great lot of former US Track Star, Marion Jones. I am clueless about the training programme that these athletes are subjected to, but I hope regular checks and continuous monitoring with medical personnel are part of the package. If it’s not, due to the lack of resources, we need to review our training strategies.

I can almost feel that Ms. Rigby wouldn’t want her fellow colleagues to loose focus with their quest for competing at global meetings and keep keeping the golden arrowhead hoisted for as long as it can be represented.

My respect to the bereaved and sleep well, Roxanna Rigby.
