Rape accused, Dewayne Leitch, 24, of Cumberland Village was on Wednesday granted $90,000 bail by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo after a probation report ordered by the magistrate was presented by Probation Officer Medford Ward.
Leitch, along with Orandi Welcome and Jason Saunders called ‘Porridge’, was accused of having carnal knowledge of a 15-year-old New Amsterdam Multilateral School student, on November 9, 2009.
Dewin Leitch was initially refused bail and remanded to prison. However his lawyer, Charrandass Persaud, continued to argue for bail prompting the magistrate to order the Probation report.. His two alleged accomplices have not yet been arrested but arrest warrants were issued for the men.
The facts of the matter is that, on the day in question at New Street, Cumberland, Leitch, Welcome and Saunders allegedly abducted and raped the young woman in an abandoned house as she was on her way home.
During police investigations two condoms were found. Leitch returned to the victim’s house the next day to enquire about what he heard happened to her the night before and was promptly arrested. He is scheduled to return to court on February 17.
